Table Tortoise by eskimoblueboy Table Tortoise by eskimoblueboy
A student found this tortoise in the parking lot at the college. She brought it inside while she was going to class. Later she set it free in the nearby woods.

I know this was taken years ago, but I have to say, that's not a tortoise, it's a box turtle. And if the woods "nearby" was not within a hundred yards of where she found it, she just took it from it's home. Box turtles stay within 250 square yards of where they were born and live their entire lives there, they start building a mental map of that location as soon as they climb themselves out of the nest with the rest of the clutch. If they are removed from their natural habitat, they will spend up to their entire lives trying to get back home. That includes crossing roads, going through dangerous lands with predators and all. It is very possible that this turtle died trying to get back home.....hate to be a kill joy :(

If you ever find another turtle, look at it, play with it, and put it back where you found it....and wash your hands to remove the salmonella, lol

Hee hee wonderful shot :) They are stubborn little critters, they don't believe in glass because to a tort if they can see through it, it doesn't exist. And if you try to take a picture of one, it always has to skiddadle out of the way :)

Glad you like the tortoise shot. Yep, it kept trying to run off the table top. hahahaha I was really careful with it though. It was rescued by a student from the college parking lot and later released into the woods.

I love turtles. We had two red slider turtles..One became very ill and died as a baby. The other got so big we had to release him because our holding tank was to small for him..This guy looks like he was made to be in front of the camera..Nice shot..:)
